Nats vs Braves
Nats +110
Under 8.5
Today is the second game of the series between the NL East rivals Nationals and Braves. The Braves took game one 5-3 that still leaves them three and a half games behind the Mets for the NL East. While the loss knocked the Nats seven games back in last place in the NL East. The Nationals will look to bounce back against Braves starter Max Fried. Fried has pitched very well lately for the Braves. The lefty in his last four starts has gone 2-1 record, with a 1.80 ERA. Fried won’t be asked to go long with how well the Braves bullpen has pitched but that doesn't mean he can’t go deep we are saying he won’t. Fried has been good lately but still carries a 4.63 ERA on the season. Yes, the majority of those runs were in just two games in April where Fried let up 12 earned runs. However, five of those runs to this Nationals team. The Nationals will be sending 2019 World Series MVP Stephen Strasburg to the mound. Yes Strasburg may never get back to that World Series form but since coming back from injury he suffered in mid April, Strasburg has looked good. Strasburg in his last two starts with a 2.61 ERA. Bet that Strasburg stays consistent and not Fried. Both teams have been very inconsistent in 2021. We ride with the veteran today.
Mets vs Dbacks
Mets -112
The Mets continue to ride high even though they have been hit with a major injury bug. They would get three key players back on Monday against the DBacks in Pete Alonso, Kevin Pillar, and Seth Lugo. Alonso delivered in a big way by driving in two runs with a single in his first at bat. Then a major big fly to extend the Mets 3-0 lead to 5-0. Pillar got a single in his first at bat since being drilled in the face with a 95+ mph fastball. Who says baseball players aren’t tough? The Mets take game one against the Dbacks behind a dominant start from ace Jacob Degrom. Who had his own RBI single. That extends the Mets winning streak to five with a three game lead over the second place Braves in the NL East. The Mets offense struggled with injuries. Having them score only three runs or less for nearly two weeks straight. However in the last three games the Mets have scored 23 runs. As the Mets get healthy that offense gets better. DBacks starter Caleb Smith will be sent to the hill to slow down the red hot offense. Smith was a starter in the beginning of the year but after a terrible start against the Padres where he allowed four runs the organization moved him to the pen. Since joining the bullpen Smith has a 2.70 ERA in 18 relief appearances. Smith will get another chance to start, and hopefully his average offense can get him some runs. Marcus Stroman will be taking the mound for the Mets. Stroman has posted a 4-4 record with a 2.47 ERA, to go along with 46 strikeouts. Stroman has been solid against bad lineups and teams. Just like the NL West last Dbacks. The Mets have won three of Stroman’s last four starts. Bet the Mets stay hot.
Angels vs Giants
Angels +134
Over 7
The Angels have hit some hard times since the Mike Trout injury. They have gotten out of the dungeon of the AL West but still being in fourth six games back isn’t too good either. The Angels have gone .500 over the last ten games being 5-5 in that time span. LA lost another to the Giants where they gave up five runs to San Francisco. Angels Dylan Buddy gave up four runs in 5.2 innings pitched. That’s been the Angels Achilles heal their starting pitching. They are last in ERA in the league for starters. Yeah that's bad. LA will send Andrew Heaney to the mound to figure things out. Heaney needs to find out his own problems. Heaney has a 5.24 ERA but in just 44.2 innings pitched has 55 strikeouts. Which is why you should choose the Angels. The Giants don’t have great offense and they strike out a lot. They are 25th in strikeouts in 2021. Heaney will sit them down tonight. The Giants will send Alex Wood to the hill who has been good for San Francisco. In 48 innings of work this year Wood has only allowed 39 hits with a 2.44 ERA. However the Angels hit well against lefties. They are 7-3 in the last ten against left handed starters. This is a tough game since the Giants are good at home and have been playing well. However neither starter will go that long into the night. Definitely seeing the game hitting the over. However in an offensive contest take the Angels.
Cardinals vs Dodgers
Cardinals 176+
We have the Cardinals and Dodgers which could be a playoff matchup come October. The Cardinals are a .5 game behind the Cubs in the NL Central after the 9-4 loss to the Dodgers last night. That would be the second loss for the Cardinals in a row. These teams are 5-5 against each other in the last ten. Making me want to take the Cardinals as the underdog as the Dodgers face a bullpen game. Dodgers Chris Taylor had an amazing 14 pitch at bat that led to a double that drove in three runs for the Dodgers that broke the tie and gave the Dodgers the lead late last night. Trevor Bauer did his job with three earned runs in 6.2 innings pitched. That would give the Dodgers the win and Bauer his sixth on the year. LA will go to its bullpen in game two of the series with David Price getting the start. The southpaw is 1-0 with a 3.31 ERA in 11 appearances, two of which are starts. He didn’t go more than three innings in any of those starts. So the Dodgers will trust their bullpen tonight against a very good Cardinals lineup. With seven relief pitchers already being out for the Dodgers. More reason to trust the Cardinals tonight. Another reason is starter for the red birds John Grant. Grant has pitched well in 2021 being 4-3 with a 1.81 ERA in nine starts. He will be taking on a lineup that includes red hot Max Muncy and Chris Taylor. However this is when you should trust Grant because in May he’s been red hot. Grant has a 1.37 ERA in four starts in May. He allowed three total earned runs in 19.2 innings pitched in the month. The Cardinals lineup will do enough behind a strong start from Grant tonight.
