Current State of UFC Women’s Featherweight Division
Last Saturday at UFC 259 the show wasn’t just the main event, in the co- main event we saw the best women’s fighter of all time Amanda Nunes show she is queen of the jungle once again. Amanda Nunes defended her UFC Featherweight championship one of her two UFC titles. She was taking on challenger Megan Anderson. Anderson in my opinion was thrown into the fight because the division severely lacks challengers. She was on a winning streak but she was beating fighters no where near Nunes. Many thought Anderson one punch power and size would give her hope in the fight. That was not the case at all. Nunes made quick work of Anderson on the feet then when it went to the ground Amanda Nunes tied up Anderson in an arm bar triangle. That looked very painful. Anderson tapped to end her time in a steel cage with a loin. Nunes won by submission in the first round to retain her UFC Featherweight championship. Which according to Anderson will be the last time Nunes will defend. No not because she’s like Joe from You where she’s going to stalk her for taking what’s hers. No not at all. Actually Dana White told Anderson without a victory there wouldn’t be much point to the division. That Felicia Spencer vs Danyelle Wolf on May 22nd will be the last UFC Women’s Featherweight bout now. Nunes has beaten all the top contenders in impressive fashion. Leaving no one really on her level or even close. Anderson is a free agent now as that was the last fight on her deal. With her height she will never be able to get down to 135. The double champ Nunes is over in a way or it lives on forever unless she loses the Bantamweight championship. Which is hard to believe even with how confident Juliana Pena is. Amanda Nunes bullied a division out of the UFC. Amazing that’s true goat status. Making my job on this certain division and piece a whole lot easier.
