Who Needs Carson Wentz More The Colts or DA Bears?

First Things First

Apparently according to constant reports from all over the sports world Carson Wentz is about to be out of the city of brotherly love Philadelphia. ESPN’s Adam Schefter broke the news before the Super Bowl that Wentz in the coming days will be traded. He was not. Those coming days have turned into a week. However, it could go down any minute. A few teams reportedly called the Eagles to hear what they wanted in exchange for Wentz. The Eagles are clearly committing to Jalen Hurts. After firing Doug Pederson after the disappointing 2020 season over philosophy disagreement with the owner and front office. The Eagles will go forward with their 2nd round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft for the future. They hired new head coach Nick Sirianni at the end of the month of January. Who was the Colts offensive coordinator for the last three seasons. The Eagles clearly wanted to go in a different direction. Then the next question was Wentz or Hurts? For me personally I thought they were going to choose Wentz because that would make the Pederson firing make sense. Philly said to hell with that we are hiring Hurt’s longtime quarterback coach as our quarterback coach. Showing that Hurts was their guy. They told teams they wanted what the Loins got for Stafford. Which was 2 first round picks, a third round pick, and Jared Goff. Yeah that’s not happening. Wentz had a very disappointing 2020 that’s why they’re here right now making this decision. Wentz is also very injury prone and since he tore his ACL the Super Bowl season when he could have won MVP he has never been the same. According to other reports no first round picks have been offered. The two teams that stay lurking over Wentz like they are sharks are DA Bears and Colts. Both need a quarterback and are in similar situations. Which one needs Wentz services more? There’s only way to find out. A nice little breakdown.

Why DA Bears Need Him

Da Bears are without a doubt in the need of a quarterback. That’s been the story of the franchise. Even when they had Jim McMahon he still wasn’t looked at as a top tier talent. The 1986 Super Bowl championship team rode that insane defense and running back Walter Payton to the Super Bowl. Ever since then it’s been Rex Grossmans, Kyle Ortans, terrible Jay Cutler contracts, so on and so forth. They also have to live in the harsh reality that they picked Mitchell Trubisky over DeShaun Watson and Patrick Mahomes in the 2017 NFL Draft. Then they took on the Nick Foles contract by trading more picks in a trade with the Jaguars. Who didn’t even play half a season. Making them go back to Trubisky. Head coach Matt Nagy and General Manager Ryan Pace also traded two first round picks in the trade for Khail Mack which they should have done. However they’ve really had no picks to build their offense. Mack was worth the trade to an extent. How’s been the center of that Super Bowl caliber defense but it’s not the 80s you need an offense in this league. Nagy is a good coach and great offensive mind. He proved that in the first season. The problem he has is he has Aaron Rodgers in his division; you have to be competitive offensively every year in that situation. He does not have those tools. Not that he doesn’t have the tools the Bears had tools they didn’t have the tool. A good quarterback that he doesn’t have to limit. Wentz could be the tool Nagy needs.

Carson Wentz did not have tools like the critics make it seem. Wentz had constant injuries to his offensive line. His best option over the year for nearly the whole season definitely wasn’t Zack Ertz it was Travis Fulgham. He is not bad but you know who he is? Exactly you probably did not. His other reliable tight end Dallas Goedert missed time as well. Wentz offense was injury prone; we never knew who he was going to play around him week to week. My point is he can still be effective. Wentz is definitely better than Trubisky. That’s clear just look at the numbers if your eyes tell you something different. Da Bears offense when Trubisky was under center was ranked 28th in the league. The passing offense by itself ranked 22nd. The Eagles ranked lower in passing but higher in total offense. As we know both quarterbacks were benched at some point. However Trubisky was benched because he limited the offense. Wentz did not limit the offense to that extreme the Eagles just thought Hurts could be a new spark to the offense. Nagy makes gameplans so Trubisky can’t hurt them. They run with David Montgomery as much as they can. Try to click the clock that’s why their eighteenth in time of possession. Nagy gives Trubisky easy 2nd & 4 or like a 3rd & 2. That’s why they are twenty-seventh in passing attempts. Nagy did not trust Trubisky. Even when they gave Trubisky easy downs he still couldn’t get the job done. Da Bears were ranked last in their third down conversions. Da Bears were terrible on offense which makes no sense under a mind like Nagy. The Bears defense with stars like Khail Mack,  Akiem Hicks, Edwin Jackson, Kyle Fuller, Danny Trevathan, Robert Quinn, and others deserve better. They deserve relief knowing they don’t need to stop the opposing offenses every drive. That’s the goal every drive obviously but we know in this league that’s not possible. There’s so much more pressure on the Bears defense to make stops because of their lack of quarterbacks on offense. Wentz could be what they need in Chicago.

Why The Colts Need Him?

To be completely honest if the Colts didn’t get Wentz they only can blame themselves for having no quarterback. Sorry you can’t feel bad for the Colts. They had two generational quarterbacks with Peyton Manning and Andrew Luck with one Super Bowl to show for it. They didn’t have to worry about a quarterback for twenty years. Luck retired because he was tired of getting hit. How do you not give this guy more weapons and better protection? Makes no sense. However in those times of losing these quarterbacks the Colts learned from their lessons and have built up a Super Bowl team. That’s why they need Wentz.

Wentz could be the missing piece to a Super Bowl trophy coming to Indianapolis. Since Luck retired the Colts have handled the offensive line like the Patriots or Packers. It’s the most important part of their team. They went out and drafted guard Quinton Nelson out of Notre Dame with the sixth overall pick in the 2018 draft. Nelson has been the best inside guard since they called his name. He is the center piece of that offensive line. The whole line is great. Philip Rivers who doesn’t move at all didn’t get sacked nearly at all last season. The Colts offensive line were third in sack percentage. That means the other team wasn’t getting to the quarterback. Rivers is immobile Wentz is very mobile; those numbers would only improve. The Colts were limited with aging Rivers that’s why they were the tenth in rushing attempts and twentieth in passing attempts. They rode running back Jonathan Taylor and Nyheim Hines. Then let Rivers make the same kind of plays Trubisky was supposed to in Chicago. Difference is Rivers made the plays more times than not. That’s why the Colts ranked in the top fifteen in rushing, passing, points, and total offense. Head coach Frank Reich knows how to run an offense. While we talk about Frank Reich you know where he coached before he became the head coach of the Colts? Oh he was Wentz’s offensive coordinator during the MVP campaign with the Eagles. Wentz will do great with Reich. They are also getting starting running back Marlon Mack back who missed the whole season. The Colts ran behind that great offensive line with a backup and rookie running back, and IT WORKED. Imagine what could be the possibilities with a mobile quarterback, great running game, and Wentz actually has time. With that top five defense the Colts had in 2020 led by Darius Leonard the Colts will definitely be seen as a serious Super Bowl contender. You can’t get to their quarterback, they can get to yours, Wentz doesn’t have to do everything he has a running game, will go into an offense he knows, with a very reliable defense. It’s honestly a match made in heaven for me.

Who Needs Him More?

Alright so boom we are here now who needs him more? The Bears need him more but the Colts are the best fit for Wentz now let me explain. The Bears need him because the Bears need to be competitive at a high level in 2021 or the Super Bowl window is completely closed. The Bears have had this team for three-four seasons now. The time to win is right now. Matt Nagy and Ryan Pace are in their last year of both their contacts. That’ll be their last contract in Chicago if they don’t win now. Chicago has never had a consistent quarterback Wentz can be that. The Colts have an all around football and just need a quarterback. It doesn’t have to be Wentz, it could be Derek Carr, Marcus Mariota, Jameis Winston, or someone of that caliber if they don’t want to take on Wentz’s contract. Wentz just gives them a much better chance with Wentz, and what are we playing for here? To win Super Bowls. However the Colts have a team built for multiple runs. That’s why they should go get him but the Bears need him to make them a winner. He’s really the last option for Da Bears, Matt Nagy, and Ryan Pace if you ask me.

In Conclusion

See what a nice little breakdown can do for you? The Colts don’t need him as desperately as da Bears. The Colts are in win mode now but can win the future. Da Bears really need to win now or the organization will be flipped upside down again. Then they’ll just be in the rebuilding stage of why the Packers are competitive for Super Bowls. Story of their lives in Chicago. They have to flip the script and give themselves a chance.
