The NY Giants 5 Options at QB Next Year
The NY Giants 5 Options at QB Next Year
5.Eli Manning- Many may not like it but the Manning option seems what management will want next year. Manning has gotten the Giants two Super Bowls but many outside the organization think it’s time to move on. As the Giants offense is 20th in total offense. People believe Manning is holding stars like Odell Beckham, Saquon Barkley, and Evan Engram back. After another losing season but throwing for 3,689 yards, 18 touchdowns, 9 interceptions, and a QB rating of 92.1 with the 13th ranked passing offense, Giants management thinks he should get one more year of improving that offensive line.
4.Draft- If it becomes April time it may be time to go young to grow with the Giant’s young star talent. The risk is getting in the spot of the draft to get the QB your franchise wants. Number 1 option would be Oregon’s Justin Herbert who has great ball placement, a great arm, and athleticism but will probably be off the board when the Giants pick is up. A real option who may fall to the Giants is Missouri’s Drew Lock who really climbed the draft board with his 3,125 yards, 25 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions in the SEC. Lock has a strong arm and a come day go day personality just like Eli Manning. Then the final option is if he decides to go is Dwayne Haskins from Ohio State. Haskin’s has a beautiful strong arm, with amazing athletic ability. He does like to stand in the pocket which the Giants would like. Haskin’s ability was on show as he broke Drew Bree’s Big Ten conference touchdown passes in a season record. Those are the three draft options unless the Giants feel like they can get a Russell Wilson type talent in the later rounds in a Daniel Jones, Ryan Finley, Clayton Thorson, or Will Grier. New York even has the option to draft a young prospect, and let him sit behind Manning.
3.Teddy Bridgewater- The Saints backup has been a forgotten man in the quarterback hunt. It’s fair as we really haven’t see how he would play after that devastating injury back in 2016.
However Bridgewater seemed to be the Vikings guy before that horrific knee injury. The Giants could give up a late round pick for maybe what would be their future at quarterback. It is a risk and a project the first part of the project would be to improve that offensive line which they must do anyways. Bridgewater does have NFL experience which much easier to teach than a rookie, especially since the Giants can win now.
2.Joe Flacco- The Lamar Jackson show is rolling in Baltimore with a former Super Bowl winning quarterback on the ousts. Joe Flacco numbers have gone down over the last two years but doesn’t mean he still can’t play. Flacco of course can’t move so the line needs to improve but the arm talent still is there. People may see Flacco as just another Eli Manning in the waiting but he’s better than what you got. If the Giants are not drafting a young QB or plan on trading for an expensive quarterback Flacco can give you good play for the next 2-3 years. Enough time to stall until a quarterback comes along they’ll pay big for.
1.Derek Carr- The Carr option is realistic as well as the best option for the Giants. Derek Carr has the talent its just in 2018-2019 season he has no talent around him. Carr is a franchise quarterback who seems to bump heads with his new head coach John Gruden. Gruden also is in full rebuild mode for the Raiders. The Giants should be willing to give up a first round pick for their quarterback of the future. A Carr, Barkley, Beckham, and Engram offense could be the best one in a couple of years. However it will most certainly contend for a Super Bowl.
