Thoughts on College Football Playoff Week 11
Thoughts on College Football Playoff Week 11
College Football Committee Top 6 Teams
Goat Talk’s Top 6 Teams
6.Oklahoma- Oklahoma is the second team out of the playoff with one loss. Their lost is to Texas which looks worse as Texas loses the last two and drops to 19 in the rankings. However Oklahoma lost early which always helps in making an argument to the committee. We believe their ranking is even to high as we think Ohio State being 10 is still a joke. Oklahoma still does have an Heisman trophy candidate in Kyle Murray at quarterback. Their offensive is beyond explosive which makes them such an interesting contender. For the Sooners it all comes down to if that defense can hold up which you shouldn’t bet on. As they have given up 24+ points to Texas Tech, Texas, Baylor, TCU, and Iowa State. Sooners have to win their last three games against Oklahoma State, Kansas, and 9th ranked West Virginia. They don’t control their own destiny they need to win out and hope for two teams to lose.
5.Georgia- Georgia is the first team out with one loss on their record. Georgia lost to LSU which got LSU back to the playoff but after their second loss LSU was knocked down to 8th. Georgia lost mid season so they could make up ground just in time especially for the 2018 season when teams in the top 4 seem to lose every week. After that loss at LSU Georgia has beat up 15th ranked Florida and 11th ranked Kentucky. In attempt to make their case that a loss like one that happened at LSU won’t happen again. Georgia is big on rushing the ball as they have the deepest roster at the position. With Jake Fromm who just suffered a minor injury at Kentucky that will take the pressure off their Sophomore quarterback. The Bulldogs need to win out as well as get a loss from a top 4 team luckily they control that in a way. Georgia has a game with 24th ranked Auburn, UMass, and Georgia Tech to end the regular season. Then they have a date with Alabama in the SEC Championship game where they can make their final argument if they must.
4.Michigan- Michigan has been a shocker to most but no so much over here as we had them in our final College Football four in our preseason predictions. That’s where they are at the moment after LSU suffered their second loss which paved the way for one loss Michigan a chance to stay in the Playoff. Michigan has the best one loss with that being to the third ranked team in the country in Notre Dame. They also lost week 1 with plenty of time to make up ground which they have. Experts said if Michigan didn’t do anything in 2018 Jim Harbaugh could of been on the way out, well he has had troops respond to the task. Michigan has beaten Wisconsin, 18th Michigan State, and 20th ranked Penn State all in impressive fashion as they beat all three teams by two scores or more. Harbaugh finally has a quarterback in Shea Patterson with National Champion talent, and a defense that can stop big offenses. The defense is ranked first in opposing teams yards allowed. Michigan doesn’t let opposing teams drive for that long. The Wolverines end the season with Indiana, Rutgers, and the big game with Ohio State. Michigan has been and is for real get used to it.
3.Notre Dame- The Fighting Irish have been impressive in 2018 as they are unbeaten going into Week 11. Notre Dame has a win over 4th ranked Michigan, has beaten every top 25 team they have faced by two scores or more besides Michigan. Notre Dame was tested by Ball State, Vanderbilt, and Pittsburgh but all teams have been tested expect for Alabama. Notre Dame has three games left, two being against long time rivals Florida State and USC which every year every player shows up to play no matter the record. The Irish also have one game with 13th ranked Syracuse which could help their argument even more. Notre Dame has one of the better defense among the top teams. Quarterback Ian Book has been showing why he was number 1 ranked pocket quarterback coming out of high school. Book has made some key play calls and leadership which came to forefront to hold on against Northwestern. If Notre Dame can really get that running game going they have a legit chance at a National Championship.
2.Clemson- Clemson has an up and down season in house but has been able to keep that undefeated even with questions around the team. The switch at quarterback from Kelly Bryant to freshman Trevor Lawrence hasn’t been a bad decision. Since Lawrence has been the man under center the Tigers have scored 40+ points ever game expect the game he left early against Syracuse. Even last week against Louisville with scoring 77 points the most in an ACC game. The defense is absolutely one of the most dominate in College Football especially with their line which may be the best in the country as they never give opposing offenses to much time to throw. The Tigers give up the third least amount of yards per game. You need to hope for the big play against the Tigers often. Clemson has two games against unranked Duke and South Carolina in the final two weeks. They need to get though this week as they play 17th ranked Boston College. The Tigers control their own destiny but once again Clemson is a National contender.
1.Alabama- No one has been more dominant Alabama in 2018. The media made it sound like their was many problems in house with the quarterback situation. If Jalen Hurts didn’t think Tua Tagovailoa deserves the spot he sure thinks he does now. Tagovailoa has thrown thrown 27 touchdowns, only 1 interception, and completes 70% of his passes. Tagovailoa is the leading Heisman trophy candidate which is nothing Alabama isn’t used too. Alabama has number 1 scoring offense and first in points differential. Teams don’t score that much as Alabama score a lot. Bama has an impressive wins but most impressive as the 29-0 win over at the time 5th ranked LSU. Alabama could be making College Football boring but that is what greatness is boring.
5.Georgia- Georgia is the first team out with one loss on their record. Georgia lost to LSU which got LSU back to the playoff but after their second loss LSU was knocked down to 8th.
