Is Tiger Woods Back?
Is Tiger Woods back?
Oh man, oh man, oh man, is Tiger Woods finally back? Is the day all young and old golf fans finally here? Have we reached the light out of the tunnel? Is the dark days of Woods not being any of kinds of relevant finally over? Well we can’t tell you the future but there is finally hope for Wood’s fans that he is indeed back. Going into the final day of at the East Lake golf course as we all waited for in anticipation to finally see Woods win again he sat at top of the leader board with a one-over-par 71 and at 11 under. Saturday he finished two shots ahead of runner-up Billy Horschel. Sunday Woods rose to the occasion like the second best golfer of all time should. The 42 year old veteran hits for par on his final hole at the East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta to clinch his 80th victory of all time, putting him two behind the all time record, and 13th ranked in the world. His first win since 2013 and most importantly his first win after he told us he couldn’t hit the ball 60 yards in January, his first win after having back fusion surge 17 months ago, his first win to make us believe again. Even though his win was huge for the moment it was also huge for a record of his. Woods after his win on Sunday fought to keep his prefect record when holding a 54 hole lead for more than two shots. He had many moments to go back to bad Woods but he fought back like old Tiger. Going into the back nine Woods was leading by five shots but he hit some trouble. He bogeyed the 10th hole that made some fans nervous. Then he responds with three straight birdies giving hope back, but then on the 15th and 16th he bogeyed that brought the nerves back but on steroids. He hit his final drive 348 yards but to the bunker which seemed to take birdie away. However all he needed was par to take home the title. I’m sure you all know the ending now. At 42 Woods sinks his final putt for par to clinch his first win since 2013, but also clinched the fact when Woods is good golf is a golden sport to watch. He has also clinched a spot in the Ryder Cup which of course makes things that more interesting. More importantly what a comeback this can be. The win yesterday was just a stepping stone of the excitement of Woods being back. If he can win his first major since 2008 it’ll make the car crash outside his home in 2009 that set his downfall up, the four back surgeries, the constant set backs, the slow starts in all the years since worth it. A major win can make all these things as just details in the greatest sports comeback of all time.
