The Top 4 Most Overrated College Football Teams this Season
Our next few posts will be our Heisman, Playoff, National Champion, Coach of the Year predictions, most overrated/underrated teams for the upcoming College Football season. First the top four most overrated teams in College Football.
4. USC: They just lost their star quarterback to the NFL in Sam Darnold. With the top 15 ranking the voters are suggesting that USC’s freshman quarterback JT Daniels will play at top 15 level out of the gate which is high optimism. They would also need a defense that ranked 66th nationally last season in yards per play at a top 25 level that’s a dramatic improvement. USC on defense also had many other questions such as they were number 68 in total defense, giving up 395.6 yards a game. The defense was also the 60th ranked in scoring defense with 26.1 points allowed per game. They were 56th ranked in rushing defense with 158.6 yards a game and 82nd in passing yards allowed at 237.0 a game. The USC defense needs a lot to overcome with a freshman quarterback in a tough conference. USC could be just looking towards disappointment.
3. Virginia Tech: Virginia Tech is a solid team but a top 25 team may not be the case. Some may even say they can make a playoff run or a big bowl game run which could be an over dramatic reaction to the team. Justin Fuente is a great coach and has put together a real good squad but nonetheless they have a lot of gaps on defense with many seniors and juniors leaving. They have easy schedule so they can still pull of a nice season. Quarterback Josh Jackson will have to improve a lot for them to have the season they dream of.
2. West Virginia: West Virginia has a rare luxury in having a Heisman contender in Will Grier on the squad but to me that might not be enough. They still have many questions on the offensive line and receiving core. If Grier goes down can the offense continue to produce? On paper it doesn’t seem so. The schedule favors them in September and October but once those Big 12 games start rolling around I don’t see them staying around long. Some have them winning the Big 12 that is a stretch I see them being between third and fifth in the Big 12 this season.
1. Texas: People are calling for the Longhorn to finally turn back to true form contending for Big 12 Championships and National Titles in my opinion just not quite yet. They are offense not defense first which is not the Longhorns we know. With that offense first mentality they don’t even have a game changing quarterback yet. People believe they can play in the Big 12 Championship that’s at least 10 wins I don’t see this team doing that in a power conference that is the Big 12.
